Anyone know anything about Newsgroups?

May be the wrong area but ATOT is where I do all my neffing, so here we go...

Hope this is easy. I tried the usenetserver service a while back but found the speed lacking (about 300 KB on my 3 MB down DSL). So I let the three day thing expire.

Well today I decided for the hell of it to try by ISP NewsGroups (SBC DSL.. err AT&T I think). Figure how bad can it be? And I am not a heavy downloader, I just want to grab a Dr Who episode here and there.

So I am using Grab-It and I subscribe to ngindex.com. I put a NZB into Grab-It and it fires up just like it did using Usenetserver. And my local newsgroup is really FAST (1,200 - 2,500 KB). It seems to be downloading the files really well.

Now here is the odd part. When I actually go in to check out what I downloaded all the files are zero KB's. I check the file properties in every way I know and it all shows 0 KB's. I try to open the files and get ziltch.

I have tried a few different files with the same results. Is this happening because the SBC newsgroups suck or what?

Thanks for your help!

The .nzb file is probably pointing to a newsgroup which your ISP does not provide. Lots of ISPs don't give access to binary groups.

That is what I was thinking but it seemed odd that it was still acting like it was downloading.

As far as my connection speed goes, 3 MB / 3Mb, it is SBC Pro DSL. My bad, think I meant 3 Mb.

How old is the file you are trying to download and how long is your isp's retention ?

Also does your isp have that certain group that the files are from?
