It's like free learning. Child decides the pace.
School without grades or any criticism.

Notable Montessori students include

Jeff Bezos (Amazon.com founder)
Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page (Google founders)
Jimmy Wales ( Wikipedia founder)

I don't see how development continues to advance, however, because
no one is challenging the child other than themselves.

The Montessori method is not just for the 6 hours they're at school, it's from birth till they move out on their own for every waking hour.

We sent both our boys to Montessori preschool, but not before practicing as many of the habits as we could before that. It does seem to boil down to starting good habits and routines early and following through.

I sent my kids to Montessori for 1 year but took them out. I hated the school, the administrators and everything about them. They were a bunch of self-righteous, arrogant people.

They tried to destroy any fun and enjoyment my kids had in education. All they practiced was a rigid, monotonous curriculum which made my children dread going to school. I know many other parents that felt the same way about this school. Perhaps it was just the way these particular people ran the school but I would not recommend it from my experience. There are other things about this place I could go on about but I won't.

i went to one for preschool, according to my parents you still have to be picky. Even around columbus, ohio area at the time there were significant varients in math and other scores and what not.

I don't remember much of it, but I remember making a world map out of macaroni...was fun. A lot...I mean a lot of people who went to the montessori school I went to also went to private school I went to...if you want to draw some random conclusion from that : P

Hate to say it, but I dont think they practiced the Montessori system. Thats what I went to for preschool and it was fun and open minded. They made learning easy and enjoyable for me. My parents were very happy.

It is. The name is Small World Montessori in Fort Lee, NJ. I was so upset with them that I walked away from over $2,000 in deposit money I forked over to them upfront.

Some friends', Dave and Nancy, daughter attended a Montessori school. I was visiting them and I noticed that their 8 year old girl was workng furiously on something. She was getting alot of phone calls too.

I asked what was going on and they told me that she was working on a term paper for class and the phone calls were from her class mates with whom she was sharing results of her literature searches.
