Anyone know anything about contacts - best brands?

I used to use Accuview Oasis I believe it was. But I switched to Air Optrix Day and Night or something like that because I was told they get more oxygen to your eyes (and I sleep in my contacts all the time, so this is a very good thing). But I never really asked around - what is the best brand of contacts? Most importantly, the ones that get the most air to your eyes.

Thanks!

I have worn contacts for just over 20 years. And for the vast vast majority of years I used Accuvue One a Days. I started on the 2-week Accuvues but they were pricey. So I switched to One a Days and I never followed the instructions and would keep them in my eyes for more like 2 weeks without any side effects, so I kept doing it. I was inspired by some news reports that Accuvue's 2-week long contacts were the exact same as their One A Days except for marketing. And they felt ok.

I know I know, bad for my eyes regardless. But I would get a eye exam every 2-3 years and all was well. My prescription stayed the same for that entire time.

Sometime around a year ago at my eye exam my prescription actually got slightly weaker, my eyes had gotten stronger, and randomly the doc asked if I wanted to try a new brand and I said sure.

BioTRUE by Bausch and Lomb. Wow what a difference. Just much more comfortable in my eyes. The difference was easily noticeable. No idea if its because more air to the eyes or for another reason, but they are magic as far as I am concerned. After doing a search oxygen transmission is indeed an advertised advantage of these lenses. Not sure how much of that is a marketing gimmick or legit science.

Only wish I switched years and years ago.

This reminds me. I'll take my contacts out now. Wear my glasses to give my eyes a break, then pop in fresh BioTRUE's tomorrow morning.

Personally, I can't really take any contacts for more than about 4 hours.

Your eye doc will be able to make a recommendation for you based on the quirks of and sensitivity of your eyes.

Ask an eye doctor. Everyone is different and they'll usually have you try on a few different kinds to check the fit and comfort.

As to sleeping in them or not taking care of them - I'd never do that. It's easy to develop eye problems from careless contact lens use (and it can be a problem that you don't see symptoms for until the damage is done). You only get one set of eyes and it takes so little time to care for contact lenses properly.

I use Acuvue Advanced or Oasis... because those are the ones the optometrist/store ordered for me. Comfortable enough and I think they say they have some UV protection. Good enough for me. My options are limited due to the need for toric lenses.
