I'm trying to throw an end-of-summer party for friends of mine. a lot of them are going back to school, others are travelling cross-country or cross-continent for work, etc. so a little extravagance is in order.

my sister recently held a reception for some of her work at the wang theater in boston, and i think she ended up spending close to 3k for the room, and then another 4 on top to cover the rest of the expenses. the place was fantastic though, and i'm pretty sure everyone had a blast.

so, last night i went hunting with the girlfriend for a spot, and ended up wandering by rowe's wharf and seeing some of the most gorgeous yachts docked there. these aren't massive cruise ships, but they're also a long shot from being 30ft private boats. The particular one i was looking at was named 'odyssey', and a waiter told me it was a party boat rented out regularly by people holding events, etc. i couldn't get hold of the owner - which may have been a good thing, since i'd rather not be completely unprepared for a quote.

the boat appears to have 3 levels, not all passenger decks i'm assuming. I'm not exactly sure of the length, but it's definitely above the 100ft mark. It's very visibly a luxury craft. I'm looking to charter it, or something similar, for no more than a night - returning the following morning. I'm hoping not to spend more than 10-15k, which will be split between my girlfriend and i, plus another friend who wants to play host. this price will have to include a full open bar (my sister mentioned she paid $15 per person per hour @ the theater), security (if it's insisted upon, the way the theater did), plus whatever insurance/deposits are necessary. Am i way out of my league?

Regards,

-P

You have way too much disposable income at an apparently young age. I could think of a few thousand things I'd rather blow $5K on than a one-nighter.

Have fun though! I'd call a marina for leads.
