I have this Amp and This mp3 in dash player.

I had it put in for me, and whoever did it maxed out the bass to the point where it was just WAY to fuggin loud. I tried to turn it down a bit via the amp and of course the sound is all screwed up now.

Anyone where I can find info on how to fine tune one of these things???? Or do I have to bring it back to the people who put it in?

What exactly did you turn down? Did you mess with any filters on the amp?

The only knob on the amp should be a gain and a subsonic filter. Messing with the subsonic shouldnt hurt much really (just dont turn it all the way down). The gain (in simple terms) is a volume control. Turning it shouldnt have messed up the sound any except for making it quieter (assuming you turned it down)

3 little nobs, guess I'll have to screw around with it. There's not enough mid range base and to much deep bass that makes your insides hurt.

well, on sub amps (class D like the one you've got) there should be a crossover knob, gain, and subsonic bass boost.... the one you were most likely screwing with is the gain.... it's fairly sensitive, so you only want to tweak while the system is on and pumping at a sensible volume... i would suggest making miniscule adjustments while the whole thing is playing, and when you get things to a point where they sound good, and the gain is at no more than 2/3rd's, i would leave it be and be happy that your system sounds good to your own ears

EDIT: just saw your previous post... if you've got too much mid-bass, that's usually because your midrange speakers aren't made to output much mid-bass, and you either need to amp them, or get smaller subs that can reproduce the midrange bass that you feel that your system is lacking

Thats most likely because you need midrange speakers. Trust me, NO stock stereo in the world will keep up with a aftermarket subwoofer. Turn your bass boost off, turn the gain down a smidge and then your just gonna have to live with it unless you upgrade your other speakers.

argh......

Well what do you guys recomend I buy? I've got the picture in the sense that these 2 10"s are not made for anything but DEEP ass bass(I didn't know this was going to be the case). I'm big on music though, and mid range bass with a hint of the deep stuff is what I'm really looking for.

I need quality sound, not block rocking garbage. I will say that the high range sound is GREAT, there just seems to be a big chuck of sound missing between highs and lows.

Whats your budget, and will you do the work or have a shop do it?

He said "three knobs" so it makes me think there might be low/high pass filters in this amp along with the XXX.1 name. He might have messed with this.

What knob did you turn?

And, I agree no stock stereo is going to keep up with an aftermaket sub/amp setup.

Thanks for the links shock wave, I still have no clue how I'd get those in my car though (only 4 speakers IN the car).

Are there any top notch 6 X 9's that would do the trick? I can always take the ones I have back.

PS: These are the 6 x 9's I have

Money is not a big deal if whatever you guys recomend gets the job done, I want to keep it cheap as possible while still getting what I want to some extent. I've seen multi-channel amps, would that help?

If i were you, id get an amp that has a knob control near your dash to change the gain on the fly.

Trying to work with what I have now, this amp I have has a bass controller I can buy for 20 bucks or so. I can also adjust the sub level through my stereo.

Another option is to make a mounting plate. Basically a thin sheet of metal (NOT TIN) that you cut the outside to match up to your factory mounting hole, then cut the speaker mounts inside of it to mount your speakers too. This is an example. It allows you to run component speakers in your facotry locations without cutting the car at all. I personally think you'd probably be quite happy with a good set of 6x9's, however I myself prefer component sets. Just a bit better quality (assuming equal brand and series). You can also just replace the front speakers and leave your rears as stock. It cuts down on the cost quite a bit to only have to swap 1 set of speakers instead of 2.
