Anyone know anything about barcodes?

My workplace is looking to get a barcode maker. What they WANT is to be able to:

1)Scan inventory into (and out of) a location using the barcode and a reader
2)Have the server keep track of what location all inventory is at
3)Be able to check a website hosted by our server that will have an updated list of what location each piece of inventory is at.

Right now we don't have anything of the kind, and never having set something like this up before, I'm not sure where to begin to look. Does anyone know anything about the software/hardware needed to do this, or a good website to check out to get something that could do all of this?
 
you just need the right software and a label printer, like BarTender and a Citizen label printer.
no "special" computer is necessary for making barcode labels.
 
I know "zebra" is a big company known for making barcode printers. You'll need one of those. Maybe they also carry bar code sanners and all too. Check 'em out. I think it's zebra.com.
 
hmm, i thought there was like one company who stored all the barcodes and allocated products their own individual ones (for a fee) that would work on like any barcode reader everywhere.


or maybe someone was pulling my leg 😉
