Anyone know anything about Artic Silver II?

someone was noted on one of these forums to have said that it supposidly contains a higher percentage of silver in its formulation than the original!

I have some.

You wouldnt know it was any different but apparantly they have made it more efficient.

<< apparantly they have made it more efficient. >>

I'm sticking with the original stuff till I read that it makes a significant differance with temperature!

I think what you said above is true but having not used "regular" Arctic Silver I couldn't say if it's any better or not...

Original Arctic Silver dissipates 5.7 watts of heat while Arctic silver II does 8. It's effectively about 40% more efficient. Nothing else comes close to it.

Some guy in the for sale forums is selling it for 5 dollars a sample shipped. That doesnt seem like a bad idea, if you dont need a whole tube

I used some Arctic Silver II for the first time yesterday. I paid $9.99 for it at Coolerguys.

The syringe is tiny. The first time you press the plunger, it won't move, so you press a little more and you lose $4.52 of the product as it shoots all over the wall across from where you are sitting.

That said, the stuff is awesome! As noted already, it's about 40% more efficient than the original AS, which is quite an accomplishment. The stuff is not runny, but it's not gooey either. Perfect consistency.

Used it on my lapped FOP32 yesterday. Right now, my 1Gig TBird is at 1123MHz (10.5 x 107). My CPU temp is 41C (105F) and my system temp is 23C (71F).

Before using AS (I didn't have the FOP though, I had a NotReallyCoolerMaster HSF) my CPU would idle at about 115, system temp was about 74F. That was stock and not overclocked. Now, I'm about 10% overclocked and STILL running cooler.

AS rules and is worth the money.

I actually have a tube here. I purchased it recently despite having a tube of "regular" artic silver just for curiousity and the hope of better cooling performance 😉 I'm currently using a Hedgehog 238 w/ Y.S tech fan on my Tbird 850@1Ghz with the regular artic silver.
36 C Idle
43 C Full load
21 C Ambient.

Will post results of Artic Silver 2 🙂

I paid £5, which I know is cheaper than AS1, but you get a smaller (3g) tube.

And mine shot out a huge blob too, I now have a silver stained TBird (wiped it off the best I could).

Little tip, dont squeeze it directly onto your chip!

ok Update.

Artic Silver 2

33 C Idle
43 C Full Load
21 C Ambient

Notice that the Full load temperature the same, The Idle temperature is a few degrees lower than before.

If you already own AS already, I don't suggest for you to purchase AS2. Its really not worth forking over some extra money to get a small difference in temperatures. Especially for Full Load, if you run RC5 or any distributed computing all the time, its definately no difference. I remounted the heatsink and applied new AS2 several times with the same results. If you don't own AS or AS2 and trying it the first time, buy AS2, its cheaper and does have a lower idle temp.

Since I'm not using a very accurate temperature monitoring system, I leave it up to reviewers or Mikewarrior to either back or disapprove this statement. However, since I was using the exact same CPU, Heatsink Fan, Motherboard and application method there is still some relevance to this small experiment.

My tube of ASGII cost me $8.50 + S&H from www.inflowdirect.com. I also ordered the "new" Alpha PEP66H and a low-profile "new" rackmount Alpha for the server (fanless cooling 🙂)
