anyone know anything about adsl?

got home and it seems my phone is not working.

the internet is fine, if a little choppy, but the phone coming out of the micro filter does nothing.

i have tried different phones in the micro filter and tried the microfilter in different sockets but nothing works.

might it be my micro filter?

does anyone know if the phone will work without the micro filter?

I know more than I would like.

Have you tried connecting the phone directly to a wall jack (ie no microfilter)? That should be the very first thing you do. Do you have any more microfilters? Plugging in your phone without one will not hurt anything, at worst you will lose your DSL connection until you disconnect it.

If that fails, take your phone outside & plug it directly into the SNI. See if you get a dialtone there. If not, you need to call the phone company.

tried both phones directly into both sockets (kitchen and lounge).

what is an SNI? is that up a telephone pole?

i have also just noticed that inside the microfilter on the side that you plug the phone into, there are only 3 pins sticking up making contact
should there be four?

when people phone me, their end rings but not mine, like the phone is unplugged
