basically i just want to talk into the mic, and have it record for 3-4 minutes. and then turn that into mp3 and then burn it onto a cd. anyone know how this can be accomplished?

Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Sound Recorder

You probably have to select microphone as the input. It'll record it as a .wav file, you'll have to convert it to an mp3. There should be lots of programs to this, check download.com, or it probably is an option in your CDRW software.

Just as you do any other audio. Record to .wav format, then convert to .mp3 with perhaps AudioCatalyst.

do you want these to be really small? you could use purevoice from eudora/qualcomm. extremely small file sizes (excellent for trasnferring messages across the internet. especially for dial up).
