Anyone know any large companies that will hire someone with a state's work permit when they are 14 or 15?

My son is bit by the "I want a job bug". He is about 15. In the state it says you can get a work permit, the hours are just restricted. I'm all for it, but the few places he has looked so far say it is policy not to hire before 16 regardless.

Just wondering if anyone knew a place that didn't have problems with this.

(when I say large companies, I mean like grocery or retail or fast food chains)

most likely a restaurant will give him a chance. There are a ton of laws regarding how late he can work (not past dark), what he can do, so not many places are willing to deal with the BS. Especially when there are so many people out there willing to work for minimum wage.

Good luck.

I think both McD's and Subway do. Of course that could vary by location since many (all?) are franchises.

Try some of the local farms. I was getting my first paycheck at tweve on a beef cattle farm.

you do know how much you left yourself out there with that post, right?

Wendy's comes to mind for a fast-food chain that doesn't usually have a problem hiring young folks, as long as they have the appropriate permission/work permits. Kroger (a regional grocery store chain) does as well... they seem to try to get kids as young as they are legal to work, and then keep them until they go off to college or whatever.

The Subways and McDonalds around here appear to only have older teens and 'young adults' working them... but that's a decision by the franchising company, not corporate.

Why big companies?

Try to find a local store or small local chain.

I got my first job at 15 at a grocery store that is part of a chain of 4 stores around here, not exactly small but not big either.

Well he called everyone I could think of in town and noone (even mom and pops) will hire below 16 here. What a shame.

how about locally-owned places? maybe a local mom n pop type of place would hire him and just pay cash

I worked for minimum wage at Walgreens @ age 15. I can't believe there are adults that make that wage. Ridiculous.

Bagger, Stocker, dishwasher. Most fast food places won't hire because there is (at least here) a restriction on working with dangerous/hot devices like fryers when you are under 16.
