I really like the style of Jurassic 5, as well as the Roots. For those who don't know, these groups are basically old school hiphop, like back in the 80's. Great beats, songs, etc. No "I wanna smack yo booty and fvk you hard"

So anyone know any other groups similar?

Dilated Peoples, Mos Def / Talib Kweli, Visionaries, Abstract Rude / Aceyalone / Mikah 9 (A-Team / Haiku De'Tat), Common.. That's a start.

Edit: Adding a couple more..

Lootpack, Quannum Crew (Blackalicious / Latyrx), De La Soul

EDIT: to clarify, The Roots and J5 aren't really underground, but stylistically they're similar to a lot of great artists you've probably never heard of who ARE underground.

I dig Flipsyde, they're hip-hop and play their own instruments. If you dislike political messages, however, stay away.

Jurassic 5 is great, their album Power in Number is the shit.

I'd suggest:

Hieroglyphics
Binary Star
Del tha Funkee Homosapien
Atmosphere

Check out Like Water for Chocolate too. Maybe not his best, but still a great album.

If you're talking about stylistically similar, then Heiroglyphics for sure. Gang Starr has that old school style as well... probably because they ARE old school.
