Anyone know about quality of Toshiba DVD drives; why only 128k buffer?

There's a Toshiba 12X selling with Hollywood Plus decoder card and unspecified "dvd software" for $64 plus shipping - "brown box". I thought I'd ask if the drive is good (smooth playback, quiet) and if only having 128k buffer is the reason it's cheap. I didn't think this qualified as a hot deal, but just curious if it's worth buying. If it's not, any suggestions as to a good drive (affrey, pioneer, etc - I don't know anything about these) that's inexpensive would be greatly appreciated. 😀

exactly. 128kb is plenty for reading. and toshina's are the highest quality ever. i love my SD-M1402. it fast, quiet, known to be reliable and has RPC-1 firmware.

I think I've purchase three Toshiba DVDs since 1998. All of them are performing well to this day. First one was a 1x DVD that couldn't read CDRs (case for all first generation DVD-ROM drives). I've just slowly upgraded since as I was building machines for other folk.
