Anyone know about IPX?

Hi, I'm having problems with my IPX... My computer was working fine when I first got it...
However, when I began setting up my home network, the IPX protocols
disappeared. When I use

start ->
settings ->
control panel ->
network

I do not see any IPX protocols installed. When I click "Add" there are
only three options: Client, Protocol, and Service with Adapter being
omitted. When I select protocol, I am only given a selection of two
Microsoft options: ATM Call manager and ATM LAN Emulation Client.

I would like to know how to reinstall the IPX protocols and what
drivers, etc. I need.

I am running a Win ME with a modem and ethernet card. I have modem,
operating system restore, and video driver CDs.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

any particular reason you're using IPX? even most Novell installations have moved to TCP/IP for networking 🙂 Try removing all your network protocols/adapters, then re-add your adapter and select IPX for the binding.

i see no reason why you would need IPX unless your running an old version of Novell...

if its just a small LAN you can just use netbeui ... very simple to use... or TCP/IP works for just about everything, just a bit harder to set up than netbeui

IPX is needed for old computer games.

As mentioned above you better off with NetBEUI as default protocol, if you don?t need IPX for a specific reason.

However, not having the protocol available for installation means trouble in the Network INF files. I would suggest that regardless of what you choose as protocol, uninstall the network setting, and reinstall it, this usually take care of missing files.
