Anyone know about bikes?

As a rule, those things are total POSs. Return it, get your money back, and go to a local bike store. Look at the lower end Treks (800, 820, etc.) lower end Raleighs, and whatever else they offer. One quick test ride, and you'll be fully convinced that Wal-Mart doesn't sell bikes. They sell pieces of turd shaped like bikes.

This Schwinn from Toys R Us would be better than the no0name Walmart bike.

But like everyone else said, if you want a good quality bike, you should go to a bike shop and be ready to shell out. You pay for what you get, and you can't get much in a bike for $100.

Schwinn used to be one of the worthwhile lower-end brands, but I think Schwinn was bought out, and no longer makes bikes, only turds like that. I wouldn't even bother with that. Look, it only comes in one size. Any halfway decent bike comes in a range of frame sizes (bigger frames don't cost extra), so the rider can get the right fit.

This is the AT equivalent of that bike.

You should return it ASAP and get something from a local bike shop. The cheapest thing they sell at a LBS will be better than what you bought.

Hey now, you could do alot with that 'puter. 😛

Schwinn DOES still make bikes. We sell them at the shop I work at. They are also sold a Toys R us and walmart. The bikes sold at both of those places are NOT the same as the ones sold @ bike shops though!!

Schwinn was bought out by Pacific (they also own GT and Dyno, among other brands)

I get folks in the shop all the time who don't want to pay bike shop prices for a good bike. I tell them "Well you can get a bike at a department store, and they aren't ALWAYS crap, but the guys building them don't have a clue as to how to set they up correctly, and even if they DID they don't have the proper tools to build them right! Buy the bike and take it RIGHT AWAY to a bike shop and have THEM tune it up, and it will hold up MUCH better!!"

Don't you just love that?

Customer: Your cheapest mountain bike is $250. The ones at Target are only $100....what's up with that?

Me: Uh...the ones in Target are complete slapped-together shite and decked out with inferior cheapo stamped parts?

Customer: Why? It's still a bike, right? What's the difference?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you can return the bike, and that you have some time to get something better for the money. That said, I got lucky and bought a used road bike from a riding friend of mine for 100$. It is in excellent condition, is a steel frame italian bike with some shimano kit.

My best advice would be to call all bike shops in your area and ask the sales guys if they know if anyone is selling some cheap used bikes. You'd be surprised how many bikes the workers at bike shops have, and how many they might be trying to get rid of. My brother-in-law is getting rid of 2 Specialized Rock-hopper bikes at 150 apiece. Above all else, whatever you do, kill that walmart bike quickly. I'd suggest doing this!

Honestly, if you look around and call around, you're guaranteed to find a decent bike for the 100-150 range that's MUCH better than a bike from Walmart.

Best of luck!
