anyone know a trick to easily getting hose off of barbed fittings?

I'm breaking my back trying to get some one inch hose off of barbed fitting s on my car. Anyone have an easy quick trick to getting 'em off? Driving me nuts.

Loosen hose clamp, use small flat head to break the seal somewhere, then work it side to side to free it

I just cut them with a single-edged razor blade (cut to beyond the barb), then use a very small flat blade screwdriver to expand the cut and break loose. Of course, this is only when you're replacing the hose.

Take a pair of channel locks, put around the hose and use them to move the hose back and forth to break it loose. Once you break it loose, use a pair of needle nose to push the hose off the fitting. Be careful, you will bend or snap something if you use too much force, the smaller the hose, the greater the chance of breaking.

If you can't get it that way pretty easy, cut lengthwise and replace.

If you are not trying to save the hose, just use a utility knife to gently slice through it.

If you need to save the hose, you need something like this in your toolbox.
They are useful for snagging out a hard to reach cotter pin too.

The hose breaks loose just fine. I can wiggle it around the barbed fitting easily, but to get the damn hose to slide off of the barbs is impossible!!

Im going to make a tool like skyking suggested and try it out. That looks like it might be the cure.

and yes, I would like to save the hose. Its very expensive 1" Heater hose.

cut a couple of washers to slip over the fitting against the leading edge of the hose and use something as a wedge between the two washers?

something like two of these with a leverage point between them.

If its brittle to where it will turn but not get past the barbs, the best solution is heat, either a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the rubber as was earlier suggested. It will slip right off then.

If it's brittle enough where it won't flex around the barbs, I would suggest cutting it off and replacing it. How expensive is it?

They work like the chinese finger cuffs. If you pull at the back of the hose it just gets tighter and will never slide off. You have to wedge something at the very end of the hose and 'push' it, rather than pull..

A little silicone spray helps.

I don't cut those things off unless there's literally no other option. Too much risk of gouging the fitting.

I've always had good luck using... well... hose pliers. Some WD-40 or similar oil can help slipping them on and off.

I didnt get a chance to make and try the hose pick yesterday. Maybe today. I still think something similar to Skykings tool should do the trick. Im thinking a thick coat hanger may do the trick... Ill post results when I get a chance to try it.

Make sure to pull the hose clamp well away from the fitting.

I would just replace it. That hose in the photo and the clamp are not factory OEM parts. It has been replaced before and it is not costly to replace it again.

Ya. Nearly nothing on my car is oem. Have you read my build thread?
I'm redoing my Air to Water intercooler system with some hardlines in order to help create better flow in my system. I could just cut up the ends of the hose but there must be a better way. Lemme try skykings idea and I'll let you know how it goes

My tool didn't work. Couldn't find a hose pliers like jch13's anywhere locally. Ended up cutting the end of the hose about 1/2" and that was enough to twist them off.

But I couldnt find them locally. I dont have harbor freights in my area and didnt feel like waiting 10 days for shipping. Yesterday is porbably the only time this week I had to work on the car so, I stopped being dumb and sacrificed a couple inches of hose.

I just work it back and forth, which creates a little bit of leverage to work it off. Works most of the time.
