Anyone know a site that has reviews of cd-rw drives? Also, what burner do you have? Likes/dislikes about it??

I think www.storagereview.com does CDRW reviews.

I have a Yamaha 8x8x24, I chose it over the Plextor 8x4x32 becuase I use CDRWs...I can't really say good bad or ugly though...I've used my roommates 2x mitsumi which was a POS, and his 6x4x24 Ricoh which is perfectly fine, and I've used my 8x8 Yamaha which is great. No coasters, no bad burns....but I can't say it's any better or worse than a Plextor, Sony, HP or anything else...never used any of those guys....

i've always used the forums as my source of reviews :) the general opinion here would be much more valuable then some award on any review site. however if scores are what you're after, www.hardwarecentral.com had a review on the plextor 12/10/32a a while ago with a perfect score, i wholeheartily agree. i've had this drive since it first hit the market and see no need to upgrade, it's by far the best burner i've seen.

I would tend to disagree simply because this group in general seems to be heavily Plextor biased. I recently purchased a Yamaha 16x Burner going against the grain here and I not only have no complaints, I have tremendous amounts of praise for this drive. It is insanely fast burning a full image in 5 minutes sometimes even just a bit under 5 minutes. The drive can copy any CD you throw at it regardless of copy protection. Whereas the Plextor's/TDK's when you buy one you are taking a big chance as to wether you get one that can read/write subchannel data. The new Sanyo 16x simply cant read/write subchannel data at all and add to this the fact that Plextor is disabling read/write subchannel data in their latest firmware well basically if you have any problems that require you to update the firmware on your current drive your screwed as far as sub channel and copying copy protected CD's.

I really dont see where everyone gets off recommending the Plextors on this board...IN my mind that drive has become the most overhyped yet underwhelming piece of hardware ever.

If you are planning to purchase a 16x drive without a doubt Yamaha is the way to go as its the onlny 16x drive that can currently read/write sub channel data.

Keep this in mind while purchasing your next drive.

I have a Sony Spressa 8-4-32 and I'm very pleased with it. Is there [i[that[/i] much of a performance boost going to a 12X write? Or would I do better to sit tight and wait for prices on 16X writes to drop?

No chance involved at all. Buy the TDK. As the CloneCD page indicates, it can still read sub-channel data and in my experience, it does. (VeloCD 12/10/32)

OTOH, the Yahama 16X got spanked with a "4" in Maximum PC this month for being an unstable POS. Who to believe: a magazine or a Plexa-hater?

TDK: Ups: BURNProof, comes with Nero instead of Easy CD Creator, reads sub-channel, 10X RW time (need to burn some stuff to take to work or a friend's, cook it in less than 8 minutes and erase it when done!); Downs: It dropped $40 in price a few weeks after I got mine,:( Yamaha fans keep trying to front on it.:p

i have a ricoh 12x 10x 32x + 8xDVD combo unit and i am very happy with it. It has justlink (ricoh's burn proof technology).

I would strongly recommend a drive with some sort of burnproof technology.

The Ricoh is a winner here as well! Go to my home page and click on Project Jukebox. I've got links to reviews and pricing.
