Anyone know a lot about volvos?

I have a '97 960...I just took it in today and they want to charge me:

1.) PnP Switch $304.40 (I can't afford that)

2.) Node switch $132.90 (or this)

3.) Sunroof garter $187.00 (or that)


Are these items really that essential? Anyone know any good mechanics in Raleigh/Durham?

I'd seriously say you gotta ask what that stuff is, if you feel they don't give you an honest answer, ask some mechanic who ISN'T working on your car. I doubt some of those parts are absolutely necessary, and maybe they are even easy to install and you could just buy them yourself and install.. i'd ask around a bit, that seems like an awful alot of money on 3 things that have almost no meaning other than the sunroof thing...

If you have enough money to afford owning a volvo, the answer to that question is obvious. Yes. Import parts are very expensive..trust me, I own an Acura.

It sucks, but Volvo parts, even old ones, are expensive. I have a wonderful '79 245 DL stationwagon, but every once and a while it costs a few bucks. A new overdrive switch for it was $40, not including labor. Does the place you're going to specialize in Volvos? If not, see if there is one in town that is well known.

yes this is a volvo dealer. Volvos are really not that expensive. but $600 bucks seems to be a lot for this kinda stuff. The car doesn't even have 50k miles...

you will never find a cheaper place before you got it fixed...
after that, you will hear people saying you got ripped off...and suddenly, every place is cheaper than what you just spent.
