Anyone know a good Subbie discussion forum?

Hey all,
How much wider of a tire can you put on a factory rim. I don't have the rim measurements, but the stock tires are 205/55-16. I know you can put one side higher (width-wise), i.e. a 215. But can you fit a 225 on there? Do I need more info about the rim itself to know this?

I'm on TireRack, it lists the stock tire size (97 Subbie Legacy Wagon GT) but I see no "plus sizing" option

Are the rim dimensions listed anywhere on the wheel itself?

I guess I'll have to take it to a tire place and have them check it out

Depends on the vehicle. Anything over one size bigger would probably have to be test fit to make sure it didn't rub the struts when turning.

The tires on it now were purchased @ Sears and have a warranty there; I'll have them check it out

You first need to learn what all those numbers mean. If you think you can just make the first number a 215 and go buy tires you're very wrong.

Your best bet is to go to a Subaru board and see what others are running. My guess is that a 225/50/16 would fit fine.

Sure, and your wheels are 16X6.5 BTW

I know the xxx (i.e. 215) refers to the width of the tire, xx (i.e. 55) refers to sidewall height, and the letter mixed in there is speed rating.

I guess that is what I will change my next question to: anyone know a good Subbie board? I've googled for some but not come up with anything remotely good

I didn't know that! :Q So to maintain the same relative sidewall height, I would want to pick 215/50/16's? Or 225/45/16's?

Actually the letter in there is not the speed rating. If there is a letter in there is will be an R and stands for radial. The speed rating will usually be after the tire size. Like 215/55/R16 95H. H is your speed rating.

That's right. Take my recommendation of 225/50/16 for example.

Your stock tire:
205 x .55 = 112.75 sidewall height

Go wider:
225 x .50 = 112.50 sidewal height

So those two tire sizes are going to have the same sidewall height so your speedo will still read correctly.

So other than taking the car into a shop, anyway to have an educated guess as to whether 225's will fit? I know they put 225's on later Subbie models of the same body style
