Hi,

I'm having all sorts of trouble with my 96 Plymouth Neon (oil leak, electrical issues, O2 sensor problem), and I was wondering if anyone knows of a good mechanic in the Northern Bay Area (preferably close to Berkeley/Oakland) that I can go to. I'm desparate! I have had NO luck in finding one so far.

Thanks in advance!

Where is the oil leaking from? Go to the car, take off the radiator cap and check to see if there is any milky substance in there. That car will blow its headgasket, its just a matter of time. O2 sensor is an easy fix, replace it. What electrical problems?

I haven't had a good experience with dealerships...hesitant to take it to one as I got ripped off pretty badly last time.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cars...*sigh*

iamwiz82:

Yeah I've been told it's either the head gasket or the main rear valve. I will check the radiator cap tomorrow and let you know.

The Check Engine Light comes on and off, and the OBD says it's an O2 sensor problem. I've been told it's most likely a dirty O2 sensor and just needs to be cleaned.

The reverse light only comes on sometimes. Sometimes it comes on when shifting from Parking to Reverse, but it almost never comes on when shifting from Drive to Reverse. I was told this might be due to a bad switch in the gear stick.

The horn is broken. When I tried replacing the fuse in the electrical box, it just keeps on getting blown out. I was told the short is most likely in the horn itself, so I need a new horn.

With all that said, my main problem comes down to I don't really know how to fix any of these problems myself...that's why I've been looking for third-party help...yeah it's pretty embarrassing...I wish I knew as much about cars and I do about computers.

If you are getting a o2 sensor and oil leak then yes it may be a bad head gasket IF coolant is gettin the exhust and messing up the o2 sensor.

OR it could be 2 different problems.

What elec. problems are you having, and what motor do you have, the Single or Double overhead cam?
