This is an older computer, with Win98. And I've been sitting here trying to get rid of that screen that pops up right when Windows starts.

I used to need this in my dorm, but not anymore.

I'm sure someone out there knows. Please!!!!!!

well, you might need microsoft networking to get tcp/ip working, file sharing, ect. Easiest way to get rid of the login screen is this.

Right click on network neighborhood
select properties
Select Windows login as your login type and not microsoft networking
click ok
say no to reboot
search for *.pwl files on your harddrive (these store all your password entries and keep them for things like dialup and windows login)
delete all *.pwl files
restart computer
when it comes up login using whatever login name you want and a blank password (no spaces)
when it asks to verify, just select ok
Now your computer is logged on with a open pwl (password list) and has nothing to verify so no more login screens :)

On second thought...even quicker meathod.

change to windows login (using above procedures)
forget about the pwl files

Go Start, Shutdown
and select the 4th option (close all programs and login as a different user) or select the log off ~blah~ above shutdown
when it comes back up real quick, just type a bogus login and blank password (verifying with blank), and your good to go with no reboot.

edit: typos
