I just got their "Asleep in the back" CD. Wow! They are up for the Mercury Prize this year and it's not a surprise. They sound like a modern-day Radiohead with more melodic sense...but they aren't Radiohead rip-offs. I hear strains of Talk Talk and The Blue Nile as well as Doves and even Coldplay. The lead singer sounds like Peter Gabriel at least as much as Chris Martin of Coldplay sounds like Dave Matthews. Ah, wonderful new British rock...the songs are somewhat lengthy and have a few experimental flourishes, but its deeply moving music in the end.
They are coming to Philly on 3/8 (North Star Bar) with another new UK band called South (who sound a little like The Stone Roses). It might be a good time to see them in a small setting before they get big.
