Several years back this friend of mine and his wife were splitting up. When it can time to start selling off stuff, he had this rocking chair he and his wife had gotten as a wedding present. The first time I saw it was from about 15 feet away, through a window. (It was stored at a friend of his' house and they weren't home at the time) He was asking $50.00 for it.

I JUMPED on it, not even knowing much about it. Since then, I have learned a lot more about it's construction, and from examining it, it's plain that it was hand made by a MASTER CRAFTSMAN.

It is made out of Teak and held together with ebony dowels. The seat was originally covered with sort of a red and black weave, and it is sprung. After the seat started wearing, I recovered it with black sheepskin.

Sorry about the quality of the pics, I didn't realize how blurry they were when I downloaded them. If anyone REALLY wants better pics, LMK and I can take others.

Ehhh looks cool :) My grandparents had one that was so comfortable that you couldn't do anything but sleep on it. Seriously, you'd sit on it and you'd be asleep 5 minutes later. Crazy.

What's the deal with the 2 horizontal slats in the backing? Also, any idea on the age of the chair?

When I first say it, I thought it was a restored antique. Later I found it was fairly new. Probably new when THEY got it. I've owned it for probably 15-20 years.

It is definitely heirloom quality though. I'll pass it down to my daughter when I go.

I wonder if it's worth a lot

Well I have looked around for Teak rocking chairs. I have found ones not half as nice as this for $1,200-UP. I figure it's worth 2K at the least!

I'm a furniture noob, to me that looks like any other rocking chair you can get at walmart. but if you think it's worth something then you should definitely take it to an appraiser, just to get a feel for how much it's worth.

I thought for sure you were being sarcastic and it was going to be halfway falling apart. I only looked at the first pic but it doesn't look bad at all.
