thats not even in the top 1% of most powerful computers. And your prices on RAM are WAY high. And just one SCSI HDD? Why not go IDE instead? Get 3 SCSI HDDs and go for RAID!

Hehe, that is a dream for me!

And get some RAID going. And what about your monitor?

edit: I'll recommend a monitor. 24" Sony FD Trinitron. Drool.

And if you want to dream all the way home, how about a Tyan K7 Thunder MP mobo and dual Athlon 1.4GHz?

The prices are just estimates right now. It might go up or down depending on the markets. Yes, it might not be the top computers, but it's up there as far as personal computers. I already have a flat-panel Samsung monitor so that's why I didn't include a monitor in my dream system.

By the way, the price for the memory is for 2 512MB which equals to 1GB of memory. I think you mistaken it for just one of them.

this is my dream system, and I intend to make my dream come true... so budget is another concern.. hee hee.. :) that's why I didn't go wild and go with dual processors.

thanks for all the feedback though! :)

Budget is a concern? Ar you kidding me?

Don't lie. You're buying a rediculously expensive case just for OC'ing. Get a cheap Enlight case and go with a dual CPU set up. You're also buying the SB Live! Platinum. Do you plan on setting up a recording studio? This computer seems to be built for gaming, not for audio editing (especially with that size hard drive). Do yourself a favor and buy an SB Live! Value.

In testing just completed at IBM facilities in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., ASCI White demonstrated a record computational capability of 12.3 teraflops (trillions of operations/second)--exceeding the performance requirements of IBM's pioneering contract with the DOE by 23% Wow. :Q

I just realised what shy said. A Vapochill costs about the same a Tyan K7 Thunder and an extra Athlon would. Minus the cost of the MSI board and it comes out a lot cheaper. If I was given the choice between an OC'd 1.4GHz at 1.8GHz, or a MP 1.4GHz setup for the same price, I'd easily go for the MP setup.

And if you want good sound, what speakers are you thinking of?

I would also suggest ditching that case and getting the Tyan Thunder and two 1.4s instead.

If I'mnot mistaken, you can get the Mobo and the two procs for little more than the Vapochill case, which would leave you extra money. You should get SCSI RAID.

Try this:

Tyan Thunder
2x 1.4/1.33 ghz
1gb memory
good, solid case
GF3
2x 10000rpm SCSI drives + SCSI raid card
Phillips acoustic edge.

if you shop around, you might stay withing your current budget.

Get rid of the Sound Blaster, though! Get a Game Theater, Santa Cruz or Acoustic Edge over that, IMO.

Exactly. I was worried I didn't explain myself too well on that one, but you got the point.

And wouldn't he feel like a moron if he got the Vapochill and couldn't get his 1.4 to boot at anything past 1.4?

An MP 1.4 solution is GUARANTEED speed.

What I see here is a big waste of money... Scrap that case, you don't need that and there are limitations on overclocking that exceed the capabilities of that case (i.e. - it's not gonna help you that much).

There's over emphasis on the wrong parts. I'd say get a dual board that had a 64 bit PCI slot (at least one) so that you could get the maximum bursts from your U160 card, dual chip, scsi raid so that you could raid 2 of those cheetahs or Atlas 10k II's...

As for the graphics cards, i can't even keep up with them. That card is gonna cost you your left arm and will be outdated in 3 months not to mention half the price you paid for it.

As for the sound card, any card that begins with Sound Blaster is NOT top of the line. Don't get me wrong, it's a good card, and i even use em, but it's pretty standard stuff when it comes to sound.

I can't stress the hard drive enough, having a scsi primary drive will make your machine seem so much faster, i can't even comprehend a scsi raid with two atlas or cheetahs... especially on a system with such a strong base. You'd fly.
