Anyone installed their own alarm system in a HOUSE?

House hunting, currently. A home alarm system will be a must-have. I want a monitored system, where if the alarm goes off, ADT (or whomever) calls the home and if you don't give the correct password, they call the cops.

However, I don't trust the installers. Who knows better how to break into a particular home than the people that put the alarm in? This is common practice in the car-alarm industry; dishonest shop owners install an alarm in your new, expensive vehicle. They've got your name/address from the paperwork you filled out. They steal your car out from under your nose.

Don't want this to happen with my house. I want to be the only one that knows EVERYTHING about my home's alarm system.

Installing the alarm wiring can't be any different than pulling cable. I know how to solder, terminate with spade terminals, etc.
Also know how to adjust the sensitivity on things like motion sensors; it's not rocket science.

Anyone installed their own alarm, then had a company monitor it?

Thanks.

I never have, but I know many people that have. Visit usenet group: comp.home.automation, and you will find all of the resources you will ever need, plus some.
