The question i have is all of the sudden my Genie Garage door opener will not work right.
My door goes half way down then goes back up Stops at different places on the track. I have tried and tried to adjust the open close limit switches along with the force close to no avail. And before someone says call them. They are closed on Sunday..

Does it have a sensitivity sensor? If so, reduce it for now, just to get it to work.

I need to replace mine as it has a tendency to need a reboot every couple of days or it will not respond.

Just put the door on manual (disengage the opener from the door) and close it.

Leave it till Monday and call them for service.

Problem solved.

Does it have a sensitivity sensor?

Better yet, what about the "Safe-T-Beam System"? Maybe that's balled up. Mine's too old to have that, so I'm not familiar with it, but I'm sure there must be a way to override it.

I have. Is yours a rollup or a swing up door?

Edit-You said it has a track, must be a roll up. Sounds like something is binding. Is the track lubed properly? Did you just install the opener?

Also, does the opener have those optical sensors? Those might be misaligned or something is blocking them.

We have a Genie door opener.

About once a month it goes haywire like you describe, or it stops working completely.

The Solution:

Unplug it for about 10 seconds and plug it back in. That fixes mine every time, I assume it operates on a Windows platform and needs to be "restarted" every now and again.

the track is probably moving a bit to get the sensors off line.
there might be a led light on the sensors to tell if they are lined up or not.
watch them to see if thats it. you can usually just adjust them a little to keep them within the parameters of flex in the tracks

"...is Genie a good product?"

Purchased mine in 1982. The guy who installed the garage door, said I should have purchased his "commercial duty" opener, because the Genie wouldn't last. Well, the Genie is still working, but they no longer carry replacement transmitters, and I'm down to one. When it dies, I'm screwed!

our garage door binds up on us sometimes. its usually the wire that goes around the pulleys above the track attached to the wall near where the door sits when closed.

We have a genie screw drive opener, its worked pretty good but the sensors can be a real PITA sometimes when random junk is blocking them.

I've got similar problems with my garage door. So far, I've adjusted the locations, direction, and sensitivity of the sensors and nothing seems to help.

But, I do think my problem exists because there is directly sunlight on one of the sensors in the morning. The door shuts fine by itself at night, but not in the morning.

Is there a law that you have to have these wondrous sensors and/or Safe-T-Beam System? Is my opener "grandfathered" since it didn't come with one? Will the door still work without them? I'd just remove that shlt if it's not against the law. Mine's got a simple clutch that works perfectly where safety is concerned, and it hasn't fvcked up in over 20 years. It's sensitive enough to send the door back up if a very small amount of snow mounds up in the door's path.

I would check the spring tension on the door it could possibly be binding.
