OK, found the drivers hidden away in the Tekram cd and all is good but I just have one question regarding this SCSI adaptor. It's listed twice, when it first boots after doing the cpu/ram count thing then also listed twice in device manager now under SCSI controllers (lists LSI Logic Ultra3 PCI SCSI Adaptor; 53C1010 device) and I'm guessing that's the way it's suppose to be 'cause I tryed removing one thinking it was a mistake yet Windows found it and re-installed its software.
Anyone here know this stuff and can confirm it? The HDDs working great so I think all is fine really

DC-390U3W (not the U2W or 3D).
The twisted pair internal ribbon is plugged into Channel A, channel 2: 68pin 16bit Ultra2 LVD/SE internal SCSI connector with only one SCSI HDD (terminated)

then you are set!!!!!
Tekram 390U3 series using LSI chip (better chip in my definition).
And yes, it will show TWO SCSI controller under your HW device.
After all, it using 2 channel. Channel 1 control LVD and external, other one control UW and SCSI-2)

Flash your BIOS to 4.18.

I also remove the PCI66/ and 66mhz jumper.
Because I using SCSI CD-ROM, I had Jumper 5 open, so, each channel can have its own IRQ.

EvilHorace;

stop editing your post, this is rather confuse trying to answer your question.
Have your LVD HD on Channel A! Active Terminator plug into the end of the twist LVD cable!

My terminator is plugged into the plug just after the HDD. Does it matter? It works? No jumpers were installed on the HDD (Seagate Cheetah X15), default. The jumpers on the Tekram adaptor are also jumped at default values. I don't plan to add more SCSI devices anytime soon.
Thanks.

You must have the Active terminator plug into the END of the LVD cable.
If that killer HD is only SCSI device you got, w/out jumper, it will ID as 0.
(which is what you want anyway)

I am sure it is okay to have jumper at default. (it will still work)
However, I open Jumper 1 & 2 since I don't have PCI66 slot and I really don't like the idea that the rest of the pin on the card may be "active"? :)

TimeKeeper,
Why should I flash my bios (Tekram cards bios)? What's wrong with it now as is and why is 4.18 better?

well...as it describe..... (Although, NOT must!)

<< Add support for Quantum Atlas 10K II, and VA Linux, Chardonnay ISP system, AMI System BIOS.

It is quite easy to flash the bio.
1. d/l the file.
2. extract to floopy
3. restart pc w/ win disk w/out cd-rom support
4. run the exe file from that floopy

Always good to flash the bios. Pretty easy.

When I installed U2W, Windows installed Symbios drivers. Had to go back afterwards, and update to Tekram drivers.

Not sure, but think it should be listed as 'Tekram' in device mgr. Ask at Storagereview. More U3W guys there.

The term should go at on the very last position. Verified this w/ diff sources .. otherwise you have what's called a 'dangling cable' .. can have 'refrlectivity' probs. I'didn't have any probs either .. but everybody said it should go at the very end.

I was also advised to set the TERM POWER jumper on the HDD closest to the terminator. The card itself does provide term power (powers the terminator), but the extra juice is supposed to help. However, I was cautioned against having more than one other device supplying TERM POWER. You only have 1 drive, so no prob.

The TERM POWER jumper on my IBM drives is separate from & bigger than the regular jumpers.

I want to see some HD Tach benches.

HD Tach benches!?
Once I know where to get the info, etc on just how I do that? I'm curious too.
(Btw Radboy, I don't understand your coded e-mail message to me. Could you please be a tad more specific?)
