Has anyone installed a car alarm by themselves before? If so, was it difficult? Did it involve a lot of holes, and "customization" on the car structure? What does it involve?

Mine was easy.

There is the control box that I mounted on the firewall inside the car. Then there are sensors that you rooute to different places. One for each door that will tell the box if a door opens, and one for the hood. There was one for the trunk, but I don't have one, so I removed that one.

I had to drill 3 holes, one for each door and one for the hood. took me a good 3 hours, but only because I was being careful where I routed the wires, like behind pnls and under carpet, instead of just tucking them in.

I've looked under the dash for mine. What a pain. Granted, I had power locks added but there's interfaces for the starter kill, parking light flash, dome light surveillance, hood and trunk sensors, etc. I had mine done professionally. Cost me about $550 as I recall.

I've installed a few. Mainly Alpine alarms. It al depends on how many features you want installed. If you want all the extras installed I recommend having a professional do it.
