Anyone in video production?

I want to throw an event, film it and produce a DVD. I imagine I will have to get the participants of the event to sign something so they don't sue me. I will also have to hire camera/sound crews, an editor, and many other employees to make sure the event runs smoothly.

Is anyone familiar with where I can get the paperwork for some of this? Will I need to hire a lawyer to look anything over?

Look for a local production company! We have a few here in this area, and they can put together a package like you're describing easily. That's part of what they do!

Another note - a couple of the production comps we've met, we've met through a wedding organization. They film weddings and parties and produce the DVD's/mementos, etc afterwards....

We do productions for bands and some other events (thus far only things that we enjoy). For a full length DVD for a band that we are friends with we charged $1k (4 camera set up 1.5 hours of footage + menus and such.) Normally we quote $2-5k depending on the band and if they want anything special.

We avoid weddings like the plague so I have no idea what to tell you as far as their prices.
