Anyone in Vancouver, BC?

I'll be moving to Vancouver near the end of the month to start a new job, I'm in Toronto now. Any ATOTers out there? Any places you would suggest looking to rent an apartment / house?

I'll be working right downtown on the waterfront, I'm not too concerned with rent amount as long as it's not crazy. I'm a little worried about finding a place with the Olympics coming up.

Any suggestions?

If you're living downtown prepared to spend about 1350 for a 1 bedroom that's actually not a shithole.

Another Vancouverite here.

If you're somewhere near a Skytrain line, you can get into downtown fairly quickly. That way, you can consider finding a place out of Vancouver proper and saving some rent money.

But it really depends on your lifestyle. Do you like to be walking distance from upscale organic-type of grocery stores or are you a driver and like to get around by driving to places?

Save yourself $500 minimum a month.

Thanks for the advice guys I've been considering Burnaby as Riceninja said to save money, as one option

To be realistic though, I'm looking downtown as well

I have friends that live off Cambie and they said as long as you are near the Canadian subway line (I think that's what it's called) then getting downtown is not a big deal

We'll have to do another meetup!

I would say ideally I'd like to walk everywhere, I don't have a car and didn't intend on getting one really, but all options are on the table right now

I lived on vancouver island for 18 years, and in richmond for 10 months, might want to check out Richmond.

Good to hear you came to your senses and are getting out of Toronto!

Try to stay out of Yaletown down here, it's kind of pretentious and annoying, but if you live in the West-end (a tad bohemian and very Korean), Kits (kind of hippiesh), or the other parts of Downtown, you should be good to go. Commuting is easy if you end up outside of the Downtown core, just try not to go too far outside because it becomes increasingly longer of course, plus the lifestyle is generally quite different.

Cambie is nice, it's definately up and coming because it was totally neglected while the Canada line was being built.

But if you're going to be in Cambie you may as well be in Richmond.
