Police Explores is a program for teens or young adult that allows them to get involved in police work. We get trained in police force, learn their history, study the law, learn police talk (10-codes & Signals), and work with the police. I was wondering if there any Police Officers that can help me study my 10-Codes and Signals. I'm having a hard time studying them, they just wont go into my pee-brain. Also, I'm 15 and looking for members in our Post#597. We are placed in Palm Bay, Florida. PM me if you're interested.

10 Codes aren't the same for all jurisdictions. For example some use Signal 13 for Officer needs assistance while some use Signal 50. You should probably just listen to the scanner or do some ride alongs. You will pick up the common ones very quickly. I still have no idea what the code is for "Sound of Woman Screaming" after all this time.

wow. are you an officer, corpral, srgt, Lt? Yeah, I forgot about that. Signals and 10-codes are used differently at other Police Departments. If you dont mind me asking, where do you work and how did you become a police officer?

I work at my school's Department of Public Safety doing vehicle patrols. I'm no police officer but I have a police radio in the patrol car and on my person when I'm at work, so I know most of our ten-codes.

10-4: Okay
10-8: Officer is out with subject
10-13: Officer needs emergency assistance
10-15: Officer would like non-emergency assistance
Those are the ones used most often at DPS.

Code 1: Emergency Response (lights+siren)
Code 2: Non-emergency response (lights but no siren, no speeding)
Code 3: Drive with traffic (that's the code they give me when I go to an unlock or jump start...:))

Well, ours are different then yours. For example;
signal 0 - armed
signal 1 - drunk driver
signal 2 - druck person
signal 3 - hit and run
signal 4 - accident

I'm the captain of my town's explorer post (highest rank), and I will be until I go to college later this year. I've been in it for about 3.5 years now, and I've done lots of work with the officers here. We are getting ready for state competition right now, which is in August (Illinois). We're also going to be going to Marseilles Army base later this month. One of our advisors is a 1st Sgt. in the Army, so we get lots of good training.

Let me know if you want any help with anything.. although our 10-codes are probably different.

10-8: back in service
10-9: repeat
10-10: fight in progress
10-16: domestic disturbance
10-20: location
10-55: DUI
10-56: drunk pedestrian
10-50: accident
10-57: hit and run

etc.

I used to be in it a long time ago. My dad was a cop for 32 years and helped on a numerous national committees and one of them was for explorers but other than that, I won't be much help to you. Sorry.
