Doesn't really matter. I've only really sailed the Hudson and the bay, but I'll go anywhere.

I've rented a 27' Erickson out of SD but it's been a few years now. My wife and I are planning a trip down there (it's only 30 minutes to downtown SD for us) in the coming weeks though, probably after summer ends.

If you don't know how to sail, they won't give you a boat. Go take some lessons or go out with people who knwo how to sail. Lot's of times you can just hang out at a Marina and get on a boat as people always need crew/rail meat.

It helps to actually know how to sail prior to renting a sailboat. They will probably have you take lessons if you haven't done it before or they'll have someone skipper the boat for you-this costs more though.

I've been sailing since I was a kid. I also crewed on a 30' Pearson for one season when I lived in Rochester. We raced on Lake Ontario and in Sogus Bay (sp?). I've also sailed to Catalina a bunch of times on a 38' Downeastern.

I'd actually like to arange a charter on a 40' in the BVI this winter. Haven't been on anything larger than a 30' though.

My Mom lived on a 43' Pan Oceanic for about 10 years. They sailed it down to South America and all over the Bahamas. I've stayed on it a couple times and sailed it a bit.
