I have a business meeting in Palm Beach on a Monday and am toying with the idea of flying into LAX that Saturday morning. For a complete newbie to Los Angeles is it feasible to get around down by the beach area without getting killed/mugged etc? or should I head straight out of town either north or south to get some beach?

I thought palm beach was in florida.

No your safe during the day time.. you cant get mugged that easily.

Stay out of south central LA and you should be fine.

you want to head to the beach. Sure, no problem. Santa Monica is nice for the beach. Nearby is venice (muscle beach) ..

However dont keep your hopes up.. LA county beaches are the worst. If I were you I would drive out of LA county to hit the beaches.

You can go to redondo, huntington beach, manhattan beach, newport beach in Orange County(the babes are awesome)

Santa Monica beach is probably the nicest of all the LA county beaches. its north of LAX. Its worth atleast going there.. and driving up the coast on PCH (highway 1)

Newport Beach sounds promising, pretty safe area to spend the night? Holiday Inn in Costa Mesa pretty safe place to stay? Looks like about a 2 hour drive to Palm Springs then from there?

Thanks again for the help

<< SOUTH
and only huntington and newport is o.c.
the others are l.a. trendy beaches with homely broads

Yeah beaches (b!tches) in OC are pretty good. Laguna Beach, Newport, Corona Del Mar. If you plan on going north of LA, there's Zuma, Malibu, Leo Carillo etc.

-edit-
It is completely same in Newport. We're far enough from LA freaks. ;) If your gonna spend some time in Newport, and like food, I suggest trying some of the restaurants out here. There's Oysters (if you like em raw) on PCH. IF you like mexican there's Las Brisas in Laguna Beach.

The drive is about 2 hours to Palm Springs. I think you would take the 15 up. There's usually not too much traffic on that highway. I take it you would be heading up sunday.

Thanks for the tips headed there tomorrow, so if anybody who lives in the newport beach area sees a bunch of people trying to roll a pale beached whale back into the ocean, make them stop so I can enjoy the beach..... ;-)

ratkil -- If you're headed for Palm Springs, take plenty of sun screen, and stay indoors in air conditioned places. It's going to be a hot weekend. 80's in the city, 90's in the San Fernando Valley, and probably around 100 degrees in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs is a couple hours drive from any part of L.A., so don't plan on bouncing back and forth. If you want to spend some time in L.A., itself, do it before or after your business time.

Happy trails. :)

The_Good_Guy.. Are you NUTS? Have you ever BEEN to Santa Monica Beach? It's FILTHY.

Best beaches, IMO, are Rat Beach / Redondo Beach, Westward Beach, or anything else along the malibu coastline.

Best one nearest LAX would probably be Hermosa Beach or Redondo..

the best beach is HUNTINGTON BEACH! Surf City man! hehe.. actually.. all the beaches in Orange County are awesome. Laguna for the artsy/rich crowd, newport/huntington for the surfer crowd, dana point for.. hmm.. i dunno.. kinda too far south for me, and seal beach for the old school grandpa surfers.

Well, your chance of getting mugged in Newport Beach (Yacht City) is zero and none. Actually, Palm Springs and Newport Beach are 2 places where the rich hang. The Beach is out of your way - youre going East (north slightly) and Newport is directly south.
Heres the map (I dunno if this link will work)
route from maps.com (directions city-city) use default

I also checked weather on internet for Palm Springs - congrats Sun/Mon will be the hottest days of the year 115-118

Harvey, I am planning on spending today and tomorrow around LA then heading over to Palm tomorrow night and spending Monday there before driving back Tuesday, I knew I wouldn't be able to bounce back and forth. :)

Well Rat beach huh? Well I just got to go there ;)

Thanks for the tips, have a great weekend

Santa Monica the best So Cal beach? Nah, the best beaches down here are in OC between HB and NB. Definitely Newport Beach is where mad females are.

Yeah and HB is called Surf City USA for a reason. Come out south from LA and visit some of the beaches out here. BTW, Venice takes the cake as the rattiest beach in So Cal. I saw a freaken syringe in the sand for god's sake.
