Anyone in here use a projector for a TV/Home Theater setup?

We were playing around with this at work, and I'm really getting into it. Yeah, it's $5,000 - but it's portable and projected a great image onto the wall, about 5'x4'. My friend was playing the new Zelda game on it...was quite intense. We also watched a few DVDs, and the resolution was great.

I'm wondering if you have to spend $5k to get a decent one though. Anybody out there use this instead of a tv?

I went to my uncle's house once and he had one. It was pretty cool at first, but it really wasn't something I'd want in my own house. I myself would prefer a nice 60" projection TV instead.

I'm considering it b/c of the portability. I have a 27" TV right now and could never have anything bigger than that in my house. I don't watch TV a ton, so I like to have the video, etc. tucked away; if a projector would work well for this, I might do that (including using the video out ports on my TV to go to the projector). I wouldn't mind having a bigger screen for DVD nights, but wouldn't want to have a 60" TV taking up an entire room the rest of the time.

keep in mind the cost of replacement bulbs! you have not given much info
about the type of projector you are considering, keep in mind that units
used in offices are usually more geared for presentations rather than
contiunues "play". average bulb life, give or take is 2000hrs, i would
dare say that on average, the cost of a replacement is $200-$300!
good luck
