Anyone in here ever laid their own woodfloors?

I'm thinking of laying some lamintate(fake stuff) wooflfoors in my bedroom and wonder how hard is it to do it on your own? And what brand would you recommend and kind of tools need it for the job?

well, it's not hard. but you have to make sure you measure, measure, measure, and have straight lines to work with.

what kind of subfloor do you have? I recommend something flat, and not curved at all.

you need a hand saw, power saw, glue, nails, a level or 2, measuring tape, a miter saw (or jig), a protractor for angles, pencils and paper as a template for those tough areas.

start at your LONGEST wall, and work your way back... what you should do is start a "panel" row off from the wall, and work from there. when you are done, you have to finish that first panel row since that is going to have to be fitted to the wall.

Laying a hardwood floor is very easy until you get to the last three rows. At that point you are no longer nailing into the tongue, you are nailing straight down. If you are careful, you will be proud of the job, because it always looks so much better than before.

Get standard tongue and groove flooring and rent a nailer. If it is not too big of a room and the sub floor is in good shape it will only take one day.

Good luck!

oops, I just realized you wanted to do a laminate floor.

Get Pergo. It's even easier that hardwood!! 😀
