How much would you charge (just labor, not parts) to replace a water pump, radiator, and thermostat on a 5.0? Rough estimate? I just want to know how much I would have paid if I took it to a shop. Thanks!

You're probably lookin at just over a grand, my friend. Waterpump is Killer on 5.0's and 351's like mine :(

Its not that big a deal for do-it-yourselfers like me. Parts should be about $500 or so CDN retail. Ford dealership is not always the best place to go. For the pump yes, but not the other parts.

A couple hrs at most to change mine on my 5.0 Crown VIC. Thats taking my time and talking on the phone and snacking.

I used to work at a rad shop so I get my stuff at a major discount. The price I pay for the rad is $175 + tax. The rest is $100 CDN.

The thermostat and radiator are cake, but I understand the water pump is more difficult (I've never changed it w/o changing the entire timing cover...)

Good idea: If you're going to change the radiator anyway, it's worth the investment on that car to get an aftermarket radiator..

The fun for me is the air conditioning. Thats expensive. Conversion to R134 is only 75 CDN. I had to replace the long AC hose (the one with the U bend in it) and that cost me good.

Well, I was just at the dealership the other day and they charge $65 an hour labor. I said, "I'll just take the parts, thank you" and saved myself about $130.

The problem is you have to take off everything to get to the water pump. Its not to bad but most of your time is taking stuff off that has nothing to do with the water pump, other than it shares a bolt with it.

Labor wise I would probable get $160-220, depending on what kind of car, I think the mustang is closer to the front than a crown vic. Thats just labor.

I'd say prolly 2.0-2.5 hours labor. Flat rate figures you can really turn 'n' burn. Maybe plus some because of that wheezer you've got in the way ;)

Hope you bought a good water pump, hate to change that very often!

Yeah, I'd do it myself like you did. As has been said, the most timing consuming is pulling off all the other crap off the front of the motor. Changed many radiators, fuel pumps, water pumps, etc on 351's. Never done a new 5.0l but can't see it being that much different, and damned if I'm gonna pay someone to do it!
