My brother-in-law just started there part time. He said he gets an employee discount of cost + 5%, is there enything there that would be a killer deal with this discount? Anyone know how much of a markup there is on LCD's?

Haha - these threads are all over AT tonight. Marvelous.

First of all, its immediate family only.

Second, LCDs are marked up anywhere between 20-100 bucks (generally speaking).

It also depends on sales and stuff.

Not everything is 5% above cost.

Wow, YABBT. Go figure.

And AFA the "family only" policy is concerned; if you've got cash, then you're part of my family. :D

Yeah, LCD's arent marked up too much. If you're looking for really good deals check out the Home Audio department and the CarFi dept. Both have really high markups on most products. Also any time of cables/wires are DIRT cheap on the discount, im talking like 500-1000% markups.

My friend worked there for a few months
he got cost plus 10

car audio and home theater are the biggest markups... i wish i'd gotten some more new stuff while he still worked there :(

i hate that place otherwise.

In Canada it's at-cost plus 10%. There is little to no markup on LCDs, so forget trying to get a good deal from an employee there.

Car audio and mid-to-high end home theater equipment, though...too bad I'm done in 11 days. :)

If you're looking for a discount on LCD's, have your brother in law check the accomodations programs on tagzone (their internal network). The manufacturers have special deals with bby for employee direct purchases where they can save up to 50% off. When i worked there i ordered an LCD, monster cables, speakers, video cards, etc...all for about 15-80% cheaper then employee discount. It's typically mail order, and the items available are always changing. Some of the companies require the you be a full time employee, and all of them typically want a copy of a pay stub or the like. It does however take a bit longer, 2-6 weeks if memory serves.

I was talking about threads where people come to AT and as questions where they're better off asking (or looking up themselves) elsewhere.

I'll pm you next time before I post to see if it suits you then, sound good? If it isn't something you want to talk about then why bother to post?
