In addition to moving to a new state next year I'm strongly considering pursuing a new career. Since I'm a small time real estate invester on the side, real estate appraising is of great interest to me. I'm also curious about claims investigations as well.

Anyone know what those type of jobs pay? What kind of training or experience would I need to get work in those areas? Thanks for any info

Good luck breaking in to real estate apprasial. The sector is particularly insular not to mention it takes a ton of schooling and Two Thousand work hours to get accredited.

Try trade associations and everyone you know to get a foothold in the industry. They are well paid, very well paid for relatively easy work but it's difficult to get into the industry.

Are you in that line of work yourself? You seem to be pretty knowledgable. I have a close family member who runs his own mortgage office, I might be able to get in with some assistance from him.

No, I'm not in that line of work, took a look at it though as something I might want to do careerwise. (i'm 20). Your family member may know someone who is an apprasier if not he definitely knows someone who knows someone. Use what you have to find out information from an insider.

Also take a look here, send them an e-mail and tell them you're interested in finding out more.

Real estate appraisal licensing is different in different states. Here in NJ, you take the approved classes - several places offer them, including Bergen Community College, down the road from me. Then you work as an apprentice for like a year, at fairly low pay (and obviously you have to find someone who'll hire you) in order to get the license. Then, you have to work pretty much full time in order to keep your license current.

In some states, however, it's a really good part-time job, you don't need to work a set number of hours to keep your license.

It's a job worth checking out.

I guess I'll start checking out a few classes, sounds like a good move for me right now.

Any insurance people out there?
