Anyone here work at Target or know someone who does?

Got an interview there later today for a part time job to make some extra cash in my free time. Now I know 95% of you are too cool to stoop to such levels, so keep your smartass comments to yourselves. In any case, what does someone working the floor earn? I'm hoping to work in the electronics department and I have 4 years of retail experience.

I used to. I earned 7 an hour, starting out. But if you are a manager you can make up to 15.

How long ago did you work there? I'm hopin to start at 10+

2001. I started off with no retail exp. But I dont see you starting off at 10+. Even if you have experience. You usually have to work up to that within like a year or so. It's not like being a salesman.

I worked there for almost two years, about two years ago. I was a cashier, started at 7.25 and was making around 8.10 by the time I left.

Don't get your hopes up for electronics. Everyone wants to work there and chances are they've already got people who've been trained in all the electronics goodness. Since its the start of the holiday season you'll likely just be doing zoning and reshop most of the time. I could be wrong, but that's true for the majority of floor workers.

This is true. Working retail during the holidays means you will be zoning. It's a pain in the ass, especially during halloween and christmas in the toy and costume sections.

You aren't going to start at 10$+, lol.. not even in Oregon where the minimum wage is $7.25.

Thanks for the comedy

Yeah, sadly Target is very fussy about what they pay their workers. It doesn't matter much how old or smart you are, generally everyone makes the same, or close to it. At my store, cashiers and floor people get up to a $.35 cent raise after your 90 days and then up to $0.55 each year. Raises are performance based, though. GSTLs, floor team leaders, LODs, TPS, etc. make more money.

Target will pay you more than Wal-Mart starting out. Plus its a much nicer environment.
I'd hate to work at Wal-Mart. That's where all the trash go.
I wish we had a Super-Target around here.

I love Target. We shop there all the time. Kohls for clothing, Target for household items. Step or two up from Walmart but still have great prices.

Why would you look for a re-tail job part time? What are your other skills? You might be able get a PT job somewhere else making more money.

I'm interviewing for a floor position. From the looks of the replies, it looks like I'm going to be disappointed by the pay... will be something that I have to consider. Thanks for the replies.

BTW, whats the discount you get when working at Target?

Applied at Best Buy, but got rejected when I took their little online test. Apparently I'm not enough of a moron to work there. I think I got penalized for telling them I'm in grad school. CompUSA not hiring and still waiting to hear back from Circuit City.

10%, and you can only pay by cash, check, or Gift Card.

Can't use a credit card? Thats kind of a crock...

Yeah, it is. The reason for it is Target gets charged a fee from the CC company for each transaction.
