I have a few friends who work there and they all seem to love it, its relaxed and it seems their coworkers are cool.

I guess the starting pay isnt that high (proably 7/hr) but you do get health insurance etc, even if you only work 20 hours a week, so that can be a HUGE plus.

i have a friend who started out as a barista and is now working for corporate. she started out at $7.25 i believe. but they get weekly tips (all the tips are averaged out for all the employees). you also get 10 free lb.'s of coffee a week and i forget whether it is a 10 or 15% discount on in-store items. the downside is that it can get super busy and packed really quick, and the hours can be a pain (if you start out new, chances are they are going to have you closing or opening).

Most $bucks are using superauto espresso machines now, so training should be easier (just push button...and I'm about to go off on a tangent about how their coffee sucks :p )
They're rated as a great company to work for, and customer service and providing the right atmosphere is their real product.

Depends on your location, In 2000 I started at 7.50 and when I quit I was at 9.50. The hours depend on your manager however they are quite flexible. Your job as a newcomer would be the Barista role. You run the register, bag coffee, make all drinks, etc. Pretty much everyone who works there does the same job, the shift supervisors and the store managers have additional roles that you need not worry about.

All the drinks for the most part follow the same formula so learning them is easy, the training is very good there. I used to train people and I could make someone who hates coffee into a master in about two weeks. The more you work, the more tips you make in addition to your wages. I worked at the busiest one in my state so I made pretty substantial money.

Any other q's let me know. You can PM or AIM me if you don't want them to be public.
