Is there anyone here that works at Staples? I'm looking for a no/little stress second job and the one near my house is hiring. I'd love some opinions about what its like to work there.

How old are you? I've heard you gotta be 20 to work there, my friend applied and was turned down. Good thing he was, got caught stealing a few weeks later.

In that case, I'm sure it's a piece of cake. Everytime I walk in there, I'm the only one in there besides the employees. The crowd is at Best Buy or Circuit City. Are they hiring?

Im sure they are, but the Staples is literally 2 minutes from my house, so I figured that I would try there first.

I've worked at the Staples in Danbury, CT during schools breaks for the past couple years. I've worked in stock, never had time to learn anything else. It all depends on your management but I was never hassled by my superiors, and the customers were basically nice to me. I stocked the shelves, and directed the customers to what they were looking for. Longer term employees get a bonus at the end of each month if the store beats its sales goals. They usually throw in some sort of party too. Its rought to work there around this time of year because of the back to school rush. The job doesn't take much brain power but the check is always on time. I never had to sell a protection plan working in office supplies either. Any more questions, PM me.

Working there nights is less stressful.

Worked there a year and a half. Retail is for brainless idiots, simply put. You could train a monkey to work retail. The stress part depends solely on management and what time of the year you're working. The management team I worked for when I started was cool - my bosses were kind of douches (2 in particular) but hey, you get those kinds of people all the time. After about 3/4 of a year we got 2 new managers and everyone got pretty laid back. Towards the last 3-4 months I worked there it turned to crap, got stressful b/c they made me do stupid sh!t I didn't have time to do or wasn't really my responsibility - I had more than enough on my plate as it was.

I can pretty much guarantee you that you will not get hired there maybe for at least a good 3-4 months, because Back To School just finished up and usually they hire a lot of extra help for BTS because it gets busier than a MOFO during BTS. They might keep all the extra help they hire but the hours are sparsely distributed between the remaining people. If they're in dire need of a lead associate they might hire some people on but it sounds like you just want to be a regular associate picking up some extra $$.

^^ Just read what you wrote about the one near your house hiring - well maybe they're still hiring for BTS then, but be prepared to clean up the store at nights till at least 11-12pm. BTS tears the sh!t out of the store. (I've worked 4 BTS, believe me, they suck)

Yeah, I don't even work there and I know that'll be one of the main things they train you on... signing people up for warranties...
