hehe... I work at an Officemax, and at least once a week I get something like this...

"Hey, I just bought a new computer and my roadrunner cable doesn't fit into it... it's got the same type of slot on the back, but it's smaller, soI need the adapter to make it work"

me "It sounds like you're trying to plug it into a standard dial up modem. Do you have an ethernet card in the machine?"

"Listen, you're what, 18? Don't you think I know what the hell a modem is? This computer was top of the line, cost me $700, I bet it's new type of ethernet card that's superior to whatever you guys sell... so where can I get that adapter?"

me "The thing is that there IS no adapter... you're trying to plug the thing into a modem!!!"

The last time this happened a guy brought his tower in to show me... sure enough, he was plugging it into a modem... I let him know, he cause a big scene... I point out that it's an AMR modem, he says that I'm an idiot because it's obviously an ISA slot (how can you confuse these???) and ends up telling me I'm a punk kid...

So are adults just scared of kids that know more then them, or do they really think they're right???

Thanks for making a judgement about me before you know me... just for your information, I live in a very small town, and the only store within 200 miles that sells computer parts is Officemax, so thats where I work. I goto a big name university for comp sci, so don't tell me I'm an idiot please.

It's one of the actual chain Omax stores, in upstate NY. We actually do pretty good here because there's no other alternatives here.

I've seen & watched customers get arrogant with Employees at these type of stores .

I listen in the distance & usually the customer makes an azz out of himself while trying to argue with the Employee !

I really like when they start making fun of how much we get paid... just because I make crap doesn't mean I'm an idiot. I get paid crap because I have no college degree yet, it isn'tmy fault.

I get the same thing when I go to do an On-site job. "Are you sure you know how to do this? You don't look old enough to know how. " , " All you computer kids make me sick, with your games and your computer KNOW-HOW." Needless to say I'm 23 know about to take my A+ Certification tests, and have been working on PC's since I was 10! Some people I think are just a little jealous of our knowledge. It took my Father $500 worth of service and waiting until he saw my PC running better than his, until he let me crack open his case. Now he doesn't trust anyone else. I know I guy who worked for IBM & TI in the 70's, and he swore up and down the modem he gave me was a "44K" (?) modem even when I clearly showed him on a system that it said 14.4, and pulled it out and showed the print that said "14.4K". I don't understand were some people get off thinking they know everything. I even almost hit that point until I looked at a fake A+ test. Please add more if I missed anything. I'm going to think about this more.

Oh yeah, there's a cap and everything, at 2mb/s , just they know they can charge extra for more accounts because people don't know any better. Hell, I tell people they might just as well get the router and use all the bandwidth they're paying for.

Hey, if it were not for "stupid customers," many computer stores would not be in business. Honestly, I cannot remember the last time I went to a "computer store" to buy parts.

Everyone who knows anything about computers buys their parts online, usually has spares, and does not want to tromp off to Best Buy to pay 23.95 for a floppy drive.

they aren't illegal, they are just not supported. That's what i tell customers...if a customer went to you saying RR said it was illegal, most likely they aren't listening to what we're saying on the phone...

Fortunetly I don't work at a computer store, I work at an office supply store. We make very little revenue of comp parts.

I've actually had 3 different customers come in saying that they called about them and were told they were illigal. Whether they called the local timewarner office or RR is another story altogether

True but with that argument you're saying something akin to no professor knows everything and no students know everything...therefore either all the students should get A's because the professor doesn't know everything or all the students should get F's because the students don't get everything.

Translation: there's different levels of knowledge and it's a pet peeve of stonecold's when people try to hide their relatively low level of knowledge by pretending to be at a relatively higher level...and they do this by insulting stonecold's relatively young age as a correlation to this level of knowledge.

you should pretend your store are out of the adapters ... go to the shelf and pretend seriously looking .. it'll be fun when he has to go online looking to buy that 'adapter'

he hee.. i like playing around with the salesppl that don't know what they're doing. Make it sound good, and u can usually get them to see if they have one in stock. I don't know if it's b/c they think i'm dumb and want to appease me, or b/c they're complete morons. Every once and a while, i find a salesman that knows what they're doing. that's the one i buy from... since he deserves the comission
