Edit: And how old are you?
not i, but my brothers, who are all young, trim, fit and healthy examples of guys, all have high cholesterol levels. genetics can be a bitch though, and 2/3 are on cholesterol lowering meds.

33 years old here... triglycerides were in the neighborhood of 250 last time I had my cholesterol checked. I've been taking Lipitor for awhile, but I think it might be time to try something else. LDL is normal. HDL is a little on the low side.

Yep, I had very high triglycerides. I control it through diet and exercise. Getting blood sugar in order by cutting carbs, particularly high-fructose corn syrup, and upping protein helped (not hardcore Atkins, just adjusting portions). Cutting out snacks and exercising to drop weight also helped. Also cut most hydrogenated fats/oils.

it's great you can drop your # that way. some try all that and still have a high reading.

My triglycerides were off the chart a few years ago back in college when I didn't watch what I was eating. The medication I took was Niaspan (spelling?) and it did help out.

Since then, I've lost some weight, I exercise, and really try to watch what I take in. It made a huge difference in my other cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Although, they are still relatively high because of poor genetics on my father's side of the family.

I had a level of like 480 a year ago. I made some changes to my diet and started exercising more (did not go hard-core in either aspect) and it only dropped like 20 points to 460.

I am just wondering if I should make an attempt to go "hard-core" and changing the diet and exercise plans or try some medication. I feel 25 is too young to get on those types of drugs.

(Otherwise, my cholesterol levels are fine.)

I have a question about triglycerides.....Mine were at 300 a couple months ago, but my LDL and HDL levels were within the norm.

Now is this still considered high cholesterol?? Only my triglycerides are high, I thought all 3 had to be high to be considered horrible cholesterol? Correct me if I am wrong. Whats the difference compared to if you just had high HDL and LDL or something?

Even when I was type 2 obese all my blood was fine...hell, even my bp was 120/70. I was 240 at 5'9.

I'm 205 at 5'9 now, same thing...blood pressure up a little but that's it.

lower your fat and processed sugars, reduce caffiene to a bare minimum.

you need to eat more complex carbos and non-animal proteins. try eating lintels...a wonderful little bean :)

Bah, you guys with "high" levels of triglycerides. When I first got checked they were @ 1200. Yeah I should have been sloshing as I walked. Unfortunately, I was in the best health condition of my life at the time. Diet and excersise did almost nothing to lower the levels. Hell, I was 8% body fat at the time!

Needless to say my condition is totaly hereditory (sp). I take Tricor and my levels hover around 100 now! :)

My doctor said since I am 22 that I should exercise and eat better. She wouldn't prescribe medication because of this! :(
