Whats your thoughts on it?

Is it worth the money?

Are the PVR functions reliable?

Do you have the ability to edit commercials out of recorded clips and burn them to DVD?

Can you setup a 5.1 surround sound scheme?

They are great if you want to spend the time setting them up.

That depends on what you want to use it for.

Sometimes.

Depends on the PVR software, but most do.

Not sure.

I don't have one, but after reading up A LOT about them, they can be a pain to get working well and can sometimes have problems.

I was mainly looking for a TiVO type unit and found that it's not worth the time and money to setup my own so I'm just going to get a ReplayTV.

I have a home server that serves up all my media to my PCs and/or my TV & Stereo. I dont want a PC in my living room... there shouldnt be one IMHO there should be a device that feeds off my central server (I just picked up a Pinnacle SHowCenter and am so-far enjoying it) The other route is the XBOX Media Center option which I will probably do too, and move the ShowCenter into my bedroom.

Why would you want to record TV shows and burn them to DVD, though? I have an AIW Radeon 9700 Pro and hardly ever record anything. Only when I will be gone, then after I watch it I just delete it. But it is very nice having an All in one home theater in your PC.

I use my htpc for dvds, divx, music, net and emulators. Definintely dont use it for pvr though. It wont record as well as a dedicated pvr box, which usually have two tuners so you can record one and watch one, or record two and watch a recorded. If you have digital cable youll also need to jerry rig a ir blaster to have it change the channels for you, not to mention figure out a way to get proper listings (not always as easy as it sounds).

PVR is more of a headache than its worth on a htpc as far as im concerned. Time warner gives me the tivo box for 8 bucks a month.
