last night i was doing some work and put my wall mount bracket on the wall. i'm not quite mounting the tv just yet because i need to get 1 more wall pass through plate to put behind the tv so the cables can go behind the wall.

however i was curious if anyone has their tv mounted on the wall, and if so, what is the height of the tv?

i've heard that you want to have the height of the tv so that when you are sitting watching tv, you want your head to be at a height that is about 1/3 the way up the screen.

so i told my wife this last night and we tried out different heights.

the stand we're putting under our tv that will hold all our a/v stuff as well as sit a center channel speaker on top of it is 19" tall. the bottom of the tv, on it's stand, is probably like 3-4 inches higher than the media stand we have, so probably like 22-24 inches total off the ground. this is definitely lower than i would like.

so i did some measuring and stuff and ended up mounting the wall bracket so that the bottom of the wall bracket is about 38" off the ground. so the bottom of the tv will probably be like 32 - 34 inches from the ground, which puts it at a nice viewing height.

now my wife wanted it higher. we tried out various heights by putting things under the tv to prop it up higher, and she liked it up higher. i was trying to explain to her that you don't really want to be looking UP at the tv when viewing it, rather be looking straight at it. of course she let me do what i wanted because i'm doing this whole project.

but it got me thinking about the people who mount tvs over fireplaces and just high up on the wall, and me personally, i do not like that at all.

so those of you who do have it mounted on the wall, i'm just curious as to what height you have yours at. when this is all said and done, i will snap some pictures because i think it is going to look very nice and clean with the job i've done thus far (i've also been doing some cat5e/coax wiring as anyone who' read the networking forum knows).

Yeah, high up and especially over a fireplace is awful. Best to just use an adjustable mount and/or arm to account for all variables: seating positions, preferences, and so on. Also, I like AV gear out of sight or at least off to the side so not always seeing the lights.

Looks good. Hope to bump mine up to 60"-65". Probably 60" though as that last 5" doubles the price.
