What should i know about comsast? we've been using Verizon DSL for the past year or so, but have had some annoying outages and terrible customer service...

so our only other optoin is cable through comcast-- i've heard it can be unreliable at times and lately they've been having trouble with thier mail servers. Any personal experiences with them? satisfied customers?

anyhow-- i guess i was just wanting to know if its worth the extra dollars per month for a little extra speed, or is it going to just be more headaches?

Check out www.dslreports.com for more details for your area. I have it in the Philly area and it's pretty solid. Had some growing pains when they were @home then bought out by comcast. The current speeds are about 1.8/256 with rumors on dslreports of increasing at some point.

I had them, and they sucked. After @Home went down, the service went in the sh!tter too. I woudl have dropped connections all of the time, and speed would suck, and, like you said, their mail servers are horrible. I have no switched over to Knology and have not had trouble since 😉

I've had comcast for a few years now. Went through the @home change and all.

I'm quite pleased with it. Haven't had any downtime since last summer. They raised our upload cap to 32k/sec. Still a bit slow, but much better than the previous 16k/sec. And my download speeds are excellent.

I'm a NJ Comcast user, not sure how it varies from state-to-state.

E-mail is down or slow sometimes, but not enough to be annoying.

I've recently been converted from AT&T to Comcast. Today I did a 200.5Kbps download of a Solaris 9 patch cluster using FTP (~850Meg file).

In my area (NW 'burbs of Chicago), you can upgrade to 6Meg down / 384 up.

I'll give 'em a chance.

FWIW
