anyone here using an HP computer they bought recently?

my parents got an HP this past winter... and after a few months of my mom using it-- it was running pretty slow.

so last night my dad tried to fix it, deleted system files... computer won't boot today. 🙂Q)

ME TO THE RESCUE!

however-- i cant seem to find an XP cd or any recovery cd for that matter, anywhere. The harddrive came partitioned with an F: drive that was labeled recovery-- however its not of much use when i can't boot up.

So-- Do HP's not ship with window's XP or recovery CD's anymore? or have we just ours?

Nope, just recovery partition. They probably gave you a boot floppy for it, though I'm not sure... If not, just make a bootdisk (that can support NTFS) and search around on F: until you find an exe that looks good.

HP = Bane on Society

My parents purchased one last year, it started crapping out on them, so they sent it back after 3 months to get the power supply replaced. They got it back and it worked fine for about a month. It started crapping out again, running slow and everything, so my dad reformatted it, only to realize that HP never sent a reinstall disk. He hates pirated software, so he went out and purchased XP Home. He reinstalled Windows, everything worked great for about another month, then the computer just died. He got tired of HP's crap so he had me build him one. It's still working great. HP = The Devil

I have an HP Media Center PC, didn't come with any CDs either... I did a low-level format for new partitioning and decided I wanted to go back to the original media center OS, and I had to call HP to send me free CDs.

HP quality seems to have really gone down. I got an HP probably 4 years ago that's still running strong, but I've seen a lot of the newer ones that crap out after a year.

A guy at college had just bought a new HP and his computer would randomly reboot after about 5 minutes of being on.. I finally realized that HP had forgotten to put any cooling fans in the computer! It had the heatsink, but there was no fan to be seen.

I got an HP about 1 year ago and didnt receive any operation system CD's. What should I do if I want to reformat?

Don't they sell HP's at Walmart? If so there is your explaination. Walmart = second rate electronics (at best).
