Anyone here uses air purifiers?

Hi folks,

I seem to have some dust problems in my room even though I close my windows 24/7. Even after only 1 day the room is cleaned, the dust is still there when I use a white cloth to wipe on the floor. Was wondering if anyone here uses air purifiers to reduce their dust problems and if they really do help at all. Any input is greatly appreciated. Need some input b4 I get one coz they're kinda pricy.

ya i do but i rarely remember to turn it on, it's noisey as hell, and the filters are expensive and kinda messy to switch. get one of those ionic breaze things from the sharper image or the knockoff at radio shack.

That's odd. Those that I saw claims that it's almost silent; though I haven't turned it on in the showroom. You mean to say the de-ionizers? Thought they usually use those in server rooms?

well mine is load but there's hundreds of different models so some are probably quiet. i don't realy now anything about the ion thing other than it just has those blades you have to clean and that it's completly silent so you can leave it on all the time.

yes, but are they worth it? depends on the model, the person, and the situation.

There's been threads on this in the past. One of the arguments people use to say about the HEPA (in the previous threads) is that you need to change the filters often. Well, they're wrong. All the HEPA filters i've looked at, required changing once every 1-3 years... a lot less often than people in the other threads that claimed you need to change them every 6 months.

Anyways, i've had the electro-ionized ones (still using that), Sharper Image Quadra Pro, and a Honeywell HEPA which i just got last week. I prefer the HEPA, even though you need to pay for filters (whereas with the electro-ionize ones, you just need to wash the plates every couple of weeks, and with the Sharper Image one you need to wipe the plates every couple of weeks), because i ALWAYS forget to clean the plates. With the HEPA, i just leave it in, and not have to bother for at least a year.

And do they work? Hell yes. Makes a huge difference if you have allergies or asthma.

Not only that, but Ionic Breeze = Ozone factory. I don't care whether or not it's within "safe" limits (I don't even think the output is marked, correct me if I'm wrong), breathing more ozone than natural = bad.

consumer reports recently did their 2nd roundup. ionic breeze still came in dead last, its worthless. you can find it at your library

I use the really cheap (~$20) Hamilton Beach True Air plug in air cleaners. For their size they work amazingly well. They do noticably reduce odors but they also get a lot of dust out of the air. Rather than replacing the filters I just vacuum them every few weeks. They are also relatively quiet. They make about as much noise as your average computer so if you have a computer in the same room you probably won't even notice it. I got mine at Amazon, I found it in my gold box, but you can find them and the filters just about anywhere.

We use a Honeywell 18225 True HEPA air purifier which works great.

Silent, moves air quickly and you do notice a difference.

Maybe the dust is sticking to your walls and floors instead of being in your air. Isn't that what the ionizer does?
