Anyone here uses a pen mouse + tablet as a replacement for an optical mouse?

I know the pen and tablet is very useful for graphic editing and such since it's a lot more accurate. But I was wondering if it's pratical for everyday use like surfing the web and maybe playing a little bit of warcraft? I was thinking of purchasing one but they are pretty expensive. They seem a lot more comfortable than a mouse but don't want to risk throwing so much money away.

I guess it can be, but I prefer my Logitech MX700 over the mouse that came with my Graphire2. The new Intuos3 tablets look like they have pretty nice mice tho...plus the advantage is that the tablet mice don't have betteries or LEDs or anything, since it works on some other technology (I want to say radio tech, but I'm not 100% sure...I just know the Wacom tablet's pen and mouse I have don't require batteries or any sort of power, they just have to be above the tablet).

That's the tablet i was looking at. it's so expensive. is it worth it, comfortable, and practical to use as a replacement for a mouse?

which one, the Graphire2 or the Intuos3? I bought the Graphire2 a few years ago...I was late for work the day I got it, it was so much fun to play with. It's only 4x5" but it's really awesome. I never use the mouse, just the pen. The mouse is useable, however.

If you're really going to invest, I'd say go for the Intuos3 9x12" at $449.99. It's really, really expensive but it looks awesome; I'm hoping that I can pick up one sometime next year. However, if you don't need that kind of power, a regular Graphire is a great way to go. My tablet, again, is only 4x5", but it works great. It was like $100 when I bought it.

What are you going to use it for? I started using the included Painter Classic software and eventually got Corel's Painter 8. It's pretty awesome stuff. I've heard it works well with Photoshop too, but I mostly just use it with Painter. I've also used it a bit in Paint Shop Pro for photography work (works pretty good when you want to blur a background real well).

I use my Graphire3 mouse.....the only thing that gets me sometmes is the small area you can move it in on the tablet (4x5)
