ok so my grandma seems to think she needs a cell. We got her one before but she doesn't comprehend somethings at her age and the bill was astronomical. I've got a couple of old samsung sch-500 PCS (don't remember exact model) and an old motorola talkabout. Can I just go to any store and buy and prepaid card and program the phone? thanks

No. Sprint doesn't seem to offer prepaid service, and nobody else who does is likely to program an old analog phone for their network.

I'd look into Virgin Mobile, available at Target (it runs on the Sprint PCS network ONLY), and AT&T Free-2-Go (runs anywhere there is cellular service, but roaming charges may apply). The minimum to keep service active with Virgin is $20 every 90 days, and the minimum for AT&T is $10 every 45 days.

I have one for my older daughter (13) nice for us because she has several after school activities, & needs rides home. Coolest thing is when she calls from the bus while on the way into town so we can be waiting for her when the bus arrives.

Why not just get grandma a killer plan that has lots of minutes since she seems to want to use it like a regualr phone?

It's complicated keeping track of when the credits run out, etc with the prepaid phone. I have reminders set up in Outlook & my palm to keep track of it for the kiddo..

I got ours from Phone Shark (for free after rebate, but that offer's not active any more) with AT&T service, there's a company that has longer expiration times on the recharge cards, but they don't provide service in my area, looked in Hot Deals & can't find it...

Wow...

I'm suprised someone suggested Global Plus from Callplus..

cause I sell them

hehe

anyone need some? let me know...
