Got a copy of MS Office 2007 Enterprise through work for $20. Pretty much has every single product available for office. I can't decide if I want to wipe Office 2003 and install 2007. Any benefits? Drawbacks?

I know the 07 stuff isn't compatible with the older versions of office.

Opinions please.

I've enjoyed Office 2007. Seems more polished and a nicer interface than the previous umpteen versions. A few things will take a little getting used to though, or at least re-mapping the locations of various features/functions in your head.

You can still open and save files in the older 97-2003 formats.

The user interface has been completely redesigned. I personally like it, but some people hate it because it forces them to relearn the programs.

if you are a person that uses the mouse to go through menus in Excel and word, the adjustment is no problem - even though you are working much more slowly than you should be!

If you are a keyboard-shortcut person - some of the old ones still work, but many of them do not - bigger adjustment for more advanced users, imo anyway.

Office 2007 very very nice IMO. I never liked 2003 anyway, but I love the 2007 interface and new features. Or maybe some of them aren't new but they are much easier to access. I was disappointed when I seen my work computer had like every version of Office except 2007, especially since I need to use Excel a ton. And having to "relearn" or "figure out" the differences is pretty much nothing for 90% of the basic functionality you tend to use in Word, Excel, etc. And when I did have to do some more advanced things in Excel, I found 2007 much better.

If nothing else, Word 2007 doesn't have those dumb non-standard margins as default like 2003 did. :)

I love 2007 too. I use Excel quite at bit a work. I always have databases with over 65000 addresses in them and I was not able to use 2003 on them. But with the new 1 million or so row limit I no longer have that problem. I also like the way with the quick ribbon access that I can customize to have the functions I use the most. Along with ASAP utilities for Excel I am very happy with the whole Suite in general.

Can't you install 2007 on top of 2003? Other then that, I like 2007 a lot better then 2003, very nice UI, simple to use.

Any benefits?

Enhanced security comes to mind. I don't know where to find a ready-made comparison chart of security bulletins for 2007 v. 2003 in the time since 2007 has been available, but I think it would be an eye-opener.

i've heard office 2k7 is much more productive once you get used to it, but the transition from 2k3 is rather rough.

Yeah its pretty nice. It takes some getting used to from the previous stuff, but its really nice once you start using it.

If you already got a copy of office 2007 for 20 buck then you have no choice but to install it anyway and if you have a lot of time then time to relearn new superior inferface.
That is all I can say right now :)
I got Office 2007 that comes with new laptop I didnt have time to relearn every interface...all I did was to type long love letter then save it and print it out then close the office 2007 that is it.

I've used Word 2007 to write a few papers (3) for class and I'm already adjusted to it.

It's not that bad if you actually sit down with it and understand the new tabbed menu system.

If you're looking for a particular function or option, just logically think where it would be, and more than likely that's where it will be.

I've been using it for a while now and like it, though like mentioned earlier the tool bars take some getting used to.

I particularly like the new fonts in Office 2007 and the default line spacing of 1.15 has made life so much easier.

I'm probably in the 5% that doesn't like what MS's done with Office 2007. I had Office 2007 for a while and then reverted back to Office 2003. Word 2007 was awesome, but Excel and PowerPoint left bad tastes in my mouth since I've been ingrained in the ways of Excel since Excel 97 and I didn't like the changes and also since I find it's a lot harder to use PPT for drawing diagrams in 2007. I also got tired of accidentally saving stuff as .pptx, .docx, or .xlsx and having people I e-mailed the documents to say they couldn't read them.

Also, I'm a guy who likes to be able to have a multiplicity of toolbars and dialog boxes in front of me at once, rather than flipping through menus (which is also why I like having 2 monitors rather than flipping back and forth between virtual desktops). If you're like me, then Office 2007 isn't for you since the Ribbon interface, although it is clean, is somewhat frustrating to use when you want more than one option in front of you (say the equation editor and the formatting toolbar).
